As lew said, he was purely an agressor who started wars for personal power and glory. He murdered several of his friends when they disagreed with him. The Jews hated Alexander and his successors reign of often violent supression of their religion and way of life. This was probibly true of many cultures in the region, no Greek historian would write about the Greeks supressing ideas contrary to their own, to the greek writer it seemed as if they were spreading culture.

Alexander the Great was a pure aggressor. He conquered for the sake of it. He waged war for no other reason than to bend people to his will. The results shaped the world we live in, and we tend to look at him as heroic, but how many cultures did he smash? How many sons and husbands died because he wanted the world. He is a great case for the argument that the victor writes the history books.
