Ok. Typical story. I was in sports in high school and collage and did regular work outs. Never paid any attention to what I was doing and why because someone always set up the workout for me. Now 11 years later I am fat and out of shape. I am working on the fat part. My legs have always and still are muscular and way out of proportion to my upper body. Even during the "good old days" I had a very hard time building mass in anything above my abs. What is a good approach to lifting weights for upper body, back, and arm toning? I am not really trying to build mass but define the muscle that is there. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm 35 and in the music business. Therefore it is very important for me to watch the way I look and keep a youthful appearence. First of all, I concentate and center on the heart of the problem, what I take in to my body. Being a vegitarian for about a year now gives me more control over the situation as I can eat as much of these good, healthy foods as I want and NEVER gain a pound! I also try to consume more LIQUIDS to replace the food when I'm hungry. Vegtable juice, orange juice, cranberry juice and plenty of fresh cold milk are my favorites. Don't be mistaken, I don't consume meat, not because I'm against killing animals, I believe they wre put on the earth for man to consume. It's the health angle of it all and the sharpness in your body you feel by not consuming all that fat greasy meat.
I don't lift weights because I just HATE that appearance of getting a big chest like some of those body builders and actors that have bigger chests than most women do. My exercise consists of walking, running and biking 9 miles a day. When it comes to weight loss, people are so blind by wasting all that money on diets and exercise equiptment when they could get another part-time job, shed the pounds and make money at the same time. You have got to be religiously dedicated to the cause if you are serious about reshaping your body. If you put the hard work into it, the rewards you get back are astounding plus you will get a renewed confidence in yourself when all those high school girls take a long look at you when you're riding by on your mountain bike. Good Luck!
