Does anyone know where Saddam got biological weapons, or how he came to power?

Yes, it was the US that gave him the biological weapons and some other stuff too.

He came into power in a take over of the government. He helped assassinate the then President of Iraq.

The US strenghtened his power to fight Iran--with money and arms donations. To my knowledge Saddam never had bio weapons. He had some chemical weapons, though the source is unknown. The only reason I doubt they came from the US is that the ones he used were outdated WWI weapons--I doubt the US had mustard gas lying around in the 1980's.

The US often chooses to support the lesser of two evils to influence foreign politics, and this sometimes backfires because we are still supporting an evil dictator. Sometimes the difference between the enemy bastards and the bastards we support isn't that great.
