I don't know, Robin Williams is as good of a serious actor as he is a comedian.

Well, he's kind of a funny, shallow guy in real life, and I don't think he can really bring the drama needed. Plus, I don't know why they keep casting him as a twentysomething or a thirtysomething when he's obviously fortysomething and looks it. The Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine were interesting, but they would have been interesting with anyone as male lead because the stories were cool. I think he should stick to comedy - he's brilliant at it.

He's done plenty of serious work that has been critically acclaimed. His performance in Eternal Sunshine may be the best he's ever done. Also, he was great in The Truman Show and Man on the Moon which were both not in his normal slapstick humour.
Plus, keep in mind that a lot of comedians have moved away from that genre. Robin Williams, Steve Martin, etc. . .

I am assuming you have not seen Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Jim Carrey was amazing in that film, amazing can;t even describe it actually. Unfortunately his funny roles overshadow the depth that he has as an actor.

Yeah, I do.
He is a very good actor, and he's older now. So this movie will be great for him to strut his maturity, his serious side.
I think Robin Williams is a great actor, and he was soooo good in The Fisher King, but no one gave him awards because he's a comedian.
Same thing with Travolta, he was a goofball for a long time, but he was amazing in Face Off and lots of others.
Then there is Ross / Schwimmer from Friends. It was so tough to take him seriously in Band of Brothers, but once I got past waiting for him to be a dork, he was great. Made the part totally hatable and believable.

I don't think there's anything wrong with a comedian wanting to try some dramatic roles.
I mean, if you were a comedian and all you've done are comedies, wouldn't you want to take a break from the norm, and show everyone your true acting abilities. He's showing us that he can handle serious roles, and not have to be a goofball to make a living.

He looks pretty scarey, that Jim Carey, on the ad here on Y/A!! I think he can pull it off and it will maybe set the stage for more serious acting for him down the road.....

I truly think that he'll be great in this new movie. I've seen the clips, and he looks and sounds believable. Can't wait 'til the 23rd. If the movie wasn't released this month, the distributors would have had only two more options this year, i.e., next month on Friday the 23rd, or wait until November, Friday the 23rd.

I talked about it in hardship-free words this spring, and it grew to grow to be my action picture of the Spring! an extremely good action picture, and once again the guy grow to be robbed of Oscar.

I think that Jim Carey is extremely talented and could play any role given to him. However, I do think he is hilarious, and I would probably like him better in comedy.

Jim Carey is a comedic actor. People just don't take him seriously in dramatic roles because early in his career he did all comedies. So in my opinion, he should have varied his roles early on. Maybe he will do well, but I doubt it.
