If, in fact, this was a hoax it was possably the greatest hoax of all time. The reality is that the physics involved are pretty straightforward, regardless of the technical complexity of making it work (i.e. the moon and Earth are moving at more-or-less constant rates at known velocities, etc.) Due to the fact that no one denys that the Titan rockets existed, there is no conceivable reason that we would have propogated such a hoax, down to making sure that the pictures from the moon showed the earth in proper form, size, phase, etc. We can debate whether or not the cost was worth the return we got, but I firmly do not believe that there was some vast conspiricy involved.
Gunga-Bush has said we will return to the moon by 2020 or so as a stepping stone to Mars. With as much money we are throwing at the middle east, I will believe it when I see it, as it were.

Hi Scouser
We went there. We even left reflectors there that are in use even today. They bounce lasers off of them from earth to collect data about fluctuations in the distance of the moon from the earth, velocity etc. This equipment had to be placed at certain grid co-ordinates and we didn't and have the technology to place it accurately from space so it had to be taken there and placed correctly by hand.
I watched in awe the 1st moon landing on TV as a 13 year old and wished that I could be there and nearly 40 years later I'd still go if I was offered a lift. We stopped going, not only cos of the cost, but also it became so commonplace that the TV stations stopped taking interest along with the public.
We are now looking further afield to Mars and beyond. The moon has no atmosphere and the gravity is only 1/6th of the earth's so it is easier and more cost effective to launch spaceships from there. There is also water ice at the poles of the moon so liquid oxygen fuel could be manufactured there.
There is talk of going back and building a station on the moon to do just that. One scientist said they may start building it in the next 30 years I'd love to see it done.

The people who say it was a hoax base this idea on just simply bad science. I have seen what they say and studied it a great deal and their ideas are simply laughable. They make false assumptions and expound on ideas that are simply wrong. You can find a great deal of the research on astronomy.com, look under bad science.
The people who believe in a hoax find a world in which people are trying to trick them. They get more enjoyment out of thinking "what is behind the curtain" They will find conspiracy's in nearly everything. It is a shame it takes so much time and effort to prove them wrong. And if they ever do admit they are wrong, they go right on to the next one and then the game must start over.

Thankyou... somebody with a brain who can think outside the box...
personally mate i don't believe it happened, we can't do it today (radiation shielding to withstand the suns rays would be too heavy) so there's no way we could do it in the 60s (when a computer needed to calculate about 1000 equations simultaneously was about the size of a small warehouse)
and there's too much evidence (provided by nasa) that we didn't go - i'm guessing you've already seen some of the "moonlanding" photos, and noticed the errors?
and nasa didn't build orbiting space stations (not operable ones anyway) that was the ruskies... (mear?)

I'm trying to keep an open mind on this one. I saw a programme on TV once that gave quite a lot of pretty convincing arguments why the moon landings were a fake. I'm sure you can find a list of them on the net somewhere. I'm not saying I necessarily believe the conspiracy theories, but they definitely give food for thought. I have no idea whether man really landed on the moon and I doubt we'll ever find out for definite.

I've thought about this a lot, If the Apollo programme was genuine and they did go to the moon, I think they found something up there and it was decided not to go back, or they were warned not to go back by the current residents. Or the just stopped publicity of moon landings & have been building a a moonbase up there for 40 years

Welcome to the land of Oz. Did man land on the man, oops, I mean Moon? Of couse not, the moon is made of green cheese, the Earth is 6000 years old and flat, and the Sun revolves around it, not the other way around. It's all a conspiracy concocted by a bunch of evil scientists who used to live on Atlantis but survived when the Martians blasted it out of existence 7000 years ago..

If I was you I would google the question then watch the videos showing the astronauts being moved about by wires, if these are false then I really would like to know why the wires were there. Hey, life is one big conspiracy!
