I'm going to a prenatal in a few minutes and I was wondering if they are supposed to check the baby's heart rate when I go? Can I ask them to to make sure the baby is doing good?

They usually do check the heartbeat at each appointment, and make sure to ask them to if they show no signs of doing it.
You should ask them anything you can think of, you need to walk out of there feeling confident that you and babe are ok, or you will do nothing but worry between appointments.
Good Luck!

My baby's heartbeat is always different..First it was 148 then 160 then 148 and then today it was 140. My doctor says that it just has to do with how active the baby is. If it's moving around a lot, the heartbeat would be faster but if not, then it's lower. I wish we could tell by the heartbeat though, I don't get another ultrasound til September!!

yea they should always check, if u dnt think that they are going to check, then ask them so they do. my friend went for a normal midwife appaointment and they listened for the heart beat n couldn't find it, the midwife called in abt 80 other doc's to c if they culd find it all the while my friend was panicking that she'd lost her baby, only to be sent to hospital and it was heard in the ambulance on the way there!! lol. and when her baby was born, he was perfectly healthy...bit early, but healthy

they always checked mine at every visit but the first like 12wks its normal not to be able to hear it as the baby is small. If they don't ask them to ease your mind if you are before the time of hearing they can do a internal ultrasound to see the baby. Ask as many questions as you'd like to make yourself feel comfortable thats what they're there for.

They will always check the babies heart rate at every visit. You can ask them but most insurances will only allow 1 ultrasound. good luck

Everytime you see the doctor from about 12 weeks on they should check for fetal heartbeat with a handheld doppler and if they do not then it will be fine to ask them to do it.

At my doctor visits they have checked it everytime. But I also have doppler here at home..so I can check it all the time..lol. I was a nervous nellie the 1st pregnancy and with this one I have not used it as much.. but it is cause he is a TaeBo fan and kicks me all the time. You can ask them to check it if they happen to overlook it. Good luck and congrats.

Yes they are, and yes you can. How are they supposed to know if there is an irregular heart beat or something else? Definately tell your dr. you want your baby checked. It'll reassure you that your baby is okay if you yourself can hear your baby!!
