What I have done in the past with my husband
( not my son ) is I would tell him to pick up his stuff and if I had to repeat myself a lot then I quit asking and just tossed the stuff in the trash. My husband was bad about leaving his socks laying around or family room so I just started to give them to the trash man and believe me when he realized I was not kidding and he had NO socks to wear he got the point real fast and now I don't have to keep on him near as much since he knows it's not beyond me to throw his stuff away. I feel I work between 50-60 + hours a week and I should not have to pick up after a healthy grown man.

Yes. I went on strike and happy to report we are all working together today. Of course I had older kids to work with, the boys are 21 & 23. I was working full time, on the road, I'm a service agent for an insurance company and some days I'd leave home at 8 and return around 7 and have dinner to cook, laundry to wash, dishes in the sink and beds to make. No one worked but me and all they did was sleep all day and want to stay up and party all night. I finally said enough. My fiancee was just as bad as the boys, so I told them all I could move and have my own place and not have the mess to put up with, I loved them all but was tired of being their personal maid. I refused to do anything but cook, none could do that more than heat up a can or TV dinner. The dishes got washed, so did the clothes, I can't say beds were made daily but an attempt was made at picking up their rooms and floors swept. It didn't happen over night but things are better after "SHE WENT ON STRIKE"
Good luck to you

I went "on strike " 1 time that was 3 years ago.
I cooked only for me. I laundered only my clothes, i shopped only for me and the animals (pets)-I only washed my dishes, etc.
After day 2 when they had no clean clothes, there was nothing in the fridge, cabinets, etc they could pull out and eat- we all had a sit down- a biggie there were some strong words and feeling-but in the end- they got a very good understanding of how i was feeling everyday.
I also was not "able" to drive anyone to the mall, practices, friends homes, etc. Nor did i allow friends over, i dint take messages (would actually tell caller sorry i am not adams secretary anymore- you'll have to call another time) and would not forward the calls (for all the messages i never got)-i did not have uniforms ready, nor did i run errands, like dry cleaning dropped off/pick up).
It drove me nuts for 3 days to do nothing after taking my own shower and washing/drying my coffee/dishes- but as the pile grew bigger in the sink, after the dishwasher was filled to max capacity) they would say are you going to do laundry-run the dishwasher, ,a there's are no plates, no spoons, i would walk to where they were-tilt my head to the side and say "didn't the laundry fairy come to work today?? didn't the grocery fairy go shopping??did the dry cleaning fairy not come?? oh yeah thats's right folks she resinged 3 days ago.
THEY GOT THE MESSAGE LOUD AND CLEAR. THEY ALL NOW PUT AWAY THEIR OWN LAUNDRY,ALTERNATE HOUSEHOLD CHORES, CLEAR THE TABLE AFTER EVERY MEAL OF THEIR SETTINGS, HELP WITH VAIOUS AGE APPROATE MEAL CHORES, WALK THE DOG, ETC.
Sounds harsh- but when one of the kids mentioned in school about how they help with keeping the family together, mentioned "makeing sure mom doesn't go on strike again" when the teacher asked what it meant- sonny told what happened, teacher called me and said she thought it was agreat idea and she wished more parents would do it because so many kids are so spolied by what the moms do- they dont appreciate it.
Good luck.

Going on strike doesn't work, your house just gets messier. Assign them chores to do. If they don't do the chores then they can't watch tv, listen to music, go anywhere with their friends, etc.
