1) Twelve 12 American astronauts have walked on the moon.
Apollo 11: Neil Armstrong & Buzz Aldrin
Apollo 12: Pete Conrad & Alan Bean
Apollo 13: << failed to land on the moon >>
Apollo 14: Alan Shepard & Edgar (Ed) Mitchell
Apollo 15: David Scott & James Irwin
Apollo 16: John Young & Charles Duke
Apollo 17: Eugene (Gene) Cernan & Harrison Schmidt
2) Why haven't we been back?
a) American astronauts visited the moon on six occasions.
b) The "moon race" was an extension of the cold war. It was mostly about national prestige. We got there first and achieved our primary objective. There was some good science: surveys, measurements, sample collection. But it was mostly about being there first. Once we achieved our primary objective, there was no political will to go back. There still isn't. Perhaps, if we discover He3 or something else valuable, there will be.
c) I used to travel to Crested Butte, Colorado every year to ski. Because I don't go anymore, does it mean that I never went?
3) What about the Van Allen radiation belts? Wouldn't it have killed the astronauts?
The existence of the Van Allen radiation belts postulated in the 1940s by Nicholas Christofilos. Their existence was confirmed in *1958* by the Explorer I satellite launched by the USA.
The radiation in the Van Allen radiation belts is not particularly strong. You would have to hang out there for a week or so in order to get radiation sickness. And, because the radiation is not particularly strong, a few millimeters of metal is all that is required for protection. "An object satellite shielded by 3 mm of aluminum will receive about 2500 rem (25 Sv) per *year*."
"In practice, Apollo astronauts who travelled to the moon spent very little time in the belts and received a harmless dose. [6]. Nevertheless NASA deliberately timed Apollo launches, and used lunar transfer orbits that only skirted the edge of the belt over the equator to minimise the radiation." When the astronauts returned to Earth, their dosimeters showed that they had received about as much radiation as a couple of medical X-rays.
4) The U.S. government scammed everyone?
In 1972, there was a politically motivated burglary of a hotel room in the Watergate Hotel in Washington, D.C. There were only about six or eight people who knew about it. However, those people, including Richard M. Nixon, the President of the United States, failed to keep that burglary a secret. It exploded into a scandal that drove the President and a number of others from office.
If six or eight people couldn't keep a hotel room burglary a secret, then how could literally thousands of people could have kept their mouths shut about six faked moon landings? Not just one moon landing, but six of them!
5) What about the USSR?
Even if NASA and other government agencies could have faked the six moon landings well enough to fool the general public, they could NOT have fooled the space agency or military intelligence types in the USSR. The Soviets were just dying to beat us. If the landings were faked, the Soviets would have re-engineered their N-1 booster and landed on the moon just to prove what liars Americans are. Why didn't they? Because the landings were real and the Soviets knew it.
6) Why does the flag shake? Where are the stars? Who took the video of Neil Armstrong?
Take a look at the first two websites listed below. They deal well with all of the technical questions.
7) Finally, please tell us what you would accept as definitive evidence that the six moon landings were real. Is there anything?

Yes. For one simple reason: the Soviet Union. You almost have to have lived through the times of the Cold War to understand the tension that was there between the two blocks at the time.
The Soviet Union would have loved nothing more than exposing the US space program, and especially the moon landing, as a big lie. Even more: the Soviets had all the technology in place to monitor exactly what the US was doing. They had satellites orbiting earth, and even satellites orbiting the moon. The Soviets even made the first moon landing in history - albeit with an unmanned robotic drone (Luna 1).
No vessel could have left earth orbit, and no radio communciation between a space craft and ground control could have happened without the Soviets listening in. They were there.
The Soviets had the means and the motivation to expose any lie the Americans told. But instead, they congratulated. This is the ultimate proof that the manned moon landing in '69 (and the follow up missions through the 70's) really happened.

I watched it on the black and white television ....but hey ...they say my kid never died nor did my boyfriend so of course no man walked on the moon. We did not discover a new earth like planet just outside our solar system a short time ago nor one hundred other planets and there are no space ships or rockets and Nasa is not true and the space stations are not real ...they just do all this pretend stuff to bluff Christians so they get to look silly????? = yeah man = I never saw no mobile phone as a kid and we never had computers but of course we are liars and the world never was ever any different than it always was ....? = Don't forget the world is flat also because in 1969 at 7 years old, we all knew the truth back then and looked forward to this future but now the half wits in this reality will not even see the facts in front of their ignorant eyes???? I do not care for the fools anymore and find the Filthy humans to be somewhat backwards these days. We also got abducted by aliens often. We lived in a space age back then and now you cover it with lies and pretend I am not typing on a computer from Australia? = no mate ....I am just a figment of my own imagination and wow.

No, I do not THINK the Americans landed on the moon in 1969.
I ***KNOW*** that they landed there.
So, what's your "proof" that they didn't? The flag "waving" in the "breeze"? No stars in the photos? Shadows don't do what you think they should? Other scientifically illiterate pseudo-scientific claptrap?
Try looking at www.badastronomy.com for a debunking of the BS websites that claim to "prove" we never landed on the Moon.
Oh, and go ask the Russians. Even they admit that we made it.

Why thank you! This is the 1,234,567,890th time someone has asked this question here...didn't you see that when you typed in the question? You simply cannot have an informed opinion about something that happened before you were born. If you weren't there at the time, all you have is your factless opinions...who needs that? My cousin worked for NASA during the Apollo missions; THEY REALLY HAPPENED. Do the people who think we never went to the Moon also believe that aliens visited us and are now at Area 51 or some such nonsense?

Yes they did. The moon isn't very far away. Back then, folks had trouble excepting technology and they were ignorant enough to believe a joke that circulated about it being filmed in the desert. There is a museum in Dayton, Ohio that has the artifacts. Isn't it funny no one wanted to believe the man on the moon, but they sure wanted to believe the alien story at bunker 54.

I think that the first landing was a cold war trick because the US were scared that the Russians would do it first. The Russians put the first satelite, then the first animal, then the first man into space and were ahead in the space race. I don't doubt that man has landed on the moon but there is sufficient evidence that the first landing was faked so America could claim to be the first country to put a man on the moon. That was cold war politics

Umm... yes. What makes you think not? Everyone watched the liftoff back then, and there are videos of them on the moon.

Of course. Unless they follow the conspiracy theories, most people are pretty sure it happened.
