I just got to work and rubbed my eye and my contact came out. When I put it back in, I noticed a tiny tear in the side of it. Obviously, I'll put in a new one when I get home, but my question is how long will it last for today?

I live an hour away from work and I'd REALLY rather not drive home to replace it and try to explain that to my boss. Do you think I can wear it the rest of the day?

I can see just fine out of it, and can't notice the rip while I'm wearing it.

If you can't feel the rip and it doesn't feel like the lens is scratching your eye, then you should be fine. Add a few extra drops of moisture to that side to ensure it doesn't dryout. (If it drys out it might become scratchy - -whcih would lead to pain in the eye)
If you got a persription from a local eye dr. call them and tell them about the rip,see if they can give you an extra one just for today. On your lunch you can drive over and get it.
I think your boss would understand about a serious item such as this, your boss would want you to be able to do your job well, and not be injured from a lens that has a rip in it. You could ask and if he/she has a cow about it, then try the pharmacy where you got your lens' =o)

Good Luck!

Your question is rhetorical. That means that is does not require an answer.
However, allow me to try to explain.
The contact lense lies on top of the cornea. If the tear on the side of the contact lense should be able to rub on the cornea, it is possible that an ulcer could be formed. Any infection of the eye is serious enough to require attention. Infections of an eye often have a propensity to move to the other eye also.

The answer is in your own hands, and your interest in your own health.

If you wish to wear the lense, then that will be your choice. You will know, of course, that with an infection in the eye, it is not possible to always wear a contact lense. If your vision is not too impaired, try using your eye with no contact lense. You may not be able to cope in this fashion though.
If, when the torn lense is in situ, you notice any sensation that appears different from the norm, you might consider removing it.
Hope this helps

Take that out immediately! It can tear your cornea. You are much better off just looking through the other contact, and feeling a little blurry for the day, but above all do NOT wear a torn lens!

the same thing happened to me a couple of years except i didnt have any more left and had to wait for my eye doctor appointment so i had no choice but to wair it like that for about four days. My eye was very irritated at that point but i was actually ok for the first 2 days . so just make sure you dont use that one any more after today.

as long as it is not irritating the eye it should be fine till you get home. If you feel it then I would just throw it away and manage with only one contact
