The program itself is a good way for people to relate to how different Black culture or some life styles are with other life styles. Just, when it becomes a commentary for just Blacks, it is wrong. Because if it were a station for Whites, many of us Blacks would consider that racist because White people are stereotyped for being racist, which isn't true. Just like there are Hispanic channels, many Hispanics relate to those shows. It's fine to show how people are different in society and their culture, just don't isolate other people from learning.

I think its racist. Why isn't there an I E T or Indian Entertainment Television, or White Entertainment Television? Just like Ebony magazine. Why not have "Ivory" magazine? And dont even try to mention Cosmo! Cosmo has black women in it ALL the time! I also think that we should have a White History Month, so whites can celebrate their heritage, whether they're from Ireland or England, France or Germany. Oh yeah! And Canada too! Why is it always "Black this and black that"?? Black people want racism to end? Stop promoting it!!

I think that this is a very controversial topic to talk about. I personally don't think that anyone should get special treatment, but you see it everywhere. I know that if there was a WET (white entertainment television) that there would be a complete uproar and it would cause total chaos. I don't understand why it's ok to have BET but not WET or AET (Asian) or whatever. Everything seems to be a double standard. It seems that colored people have been begging to be treated as equals and then they do things like BET, or Ebony magazine, which single them out and expect "special" treatment. Yet, if a white person were to do it, we would be considered racist. Does that mean black people are the true racists? It's a never ending debate....

At first, i thought that BET was a horrible misrepresentation of the thoughts, and actions of my fellow black youth, but then i realized that BET is exactly what it says, Black ENTERTAINMENT Televison. There's nothing wrong with the debeaucherous activities that you see on BET because it's only for ENTERTAINMENT purposes. I could see if it was like the BNN, Black News Network, then they'd have a responsibility to display a more professional side to Black society, but as it stands, it's find as a black alternative to mtv

I think if there were WET being "White Entertainment Television" ,some black people would call it racist and it wouldnt be allowed to be shown anymore...yet BET has been around for over 20 years....

From what I've seen of the channel it seems racist against whites.
Can you imagine the outcry and anger by the African-American community if there was a Caucasian Entertainment Television channel?
I think it shows the horrible double standard going on in America today. blacks are bitter (understandably) about their history in America and has made them racist against whites. but unfortunately most seem to think that whites owe something to them and have started to create another racial divide.
I think both african-americans and caucasian-americans need to stop reliving the past and move on to a future where people are judged by their actions and not by the color of their skin.

Well being it's probably not my place to say but if you are talking about the title, I really don't know (I suppose it could be offensive?) as for the channel I think it's good because if you think about it there really aren't a lot of shows that aren't based around white people/white families etc. BET offers more to the African American culture. I don't know, that's just my opinion.

The concept of "separate but equal" at its finest.
What would you think if someone launched a "White Entertainment Television" program? Would you think the same of it as you do BET, or would you automatically label it as "racist" because it's a program for white people?

BET is a horrible representation of the youth of black america. Or is it? Personally, I'm undecided with whether the television series' they feature on the network are simply urban, or a way of dumbing down an already fairly lacking [in intelligence] youth.
