Do you believe that global warming is a real problem? With current temp's reaching record lows all around the country, I am wondering if this is a bunch of scientists blowing off some hot air of thier own.

I haven't done a lot of research on the subject, but here's my opinion, for what it's worth:

I think the globe is warming. However, 35 years ago the big scare was the coming ice age. They claimed a lot of scientific evidence, too. Now it's greenhouse. Can't they make up their minds?

Maybe it's just natural fluctuation. The climate does fluctuate. There was a 300-year "Little Ice Age" going on when Jamestown was settled (1607).

Also, a couple of years ago, they told us that hurricanes come in cycles and that we were entering a 20-30 year cycle of increased hurricanes. Now they're telling us the hurricane activity is due to global warming.

I know the "hockey stick" used to prove gw is a bunch of hokey (the "hockey stick is a graph of world temps. I shows a couple hundred years of even temps [the handle] followed by a sharp rise at the end [the business end of the stick]). But if you look at temps before the chart begins, you see that the rise at the end is not unusual.

Also, solar activity is increasing, which increases the radiation we receive. I remember reading evidence was warming, or maybe a previous warming, on some other planet. Sorry I'm so vague here--maybe another reader can fill in the details.

I heard the "science" used in the recent UN report is faulty, too. And did you notice--they said nothing we can do will stop gw over the next few centuries? Did you draw the same conclusion I did: why try?

Given all this, even if gw is happening, it is being blown out of proportion and lied about by those who want to use it as an opportunity for a global power grab.

Having said that, I still think we should use alternate energies whenever possible and build our houses with thicker walls and better windows, etc. I mean, is it going to hurt us to save on our power bills? How about becoming less dependent on Arab oil? Does that appeal to anyone?

Previous warming and cooling cycles didn't effect as many people, nor cause as much financial damage. Also, the records of the price people paid for them don't exist. The Sahara Desert used to be lush. What happened to all those people when it dried out? If it were lush 100 years ago and was now drying out, what in the world would our politicians do? Yet it was not caused by humans, and humans couldn't stop it. They could only die, adapt (only the few the new desert could support), or move.

Global warming is a politacal issue
in 1973 we as a planet had temputures hotter than today over one degree F. The politicians of the world believe these scientist, who work for companies that can benefit from global warming, Yet there was a pettion signed by over 15,000 scientists that there is no eveidence supporting claims of global warming being caused by humans.
This global warming issue is a scam that is used as a political and money making platform.
THIS IS THE TRUTH!

Uncommon weather extremes are confirmation of global warming patterns. You can't judge weather in the short term. Scientists look at long term trends in weather patterns. It's true that there's always been big variations in weather. However, now those normal variations are superimposed on a growing global warming trend. Interesting, if we eliminated all our air pollution (not carbon dioxide green house gas) then the global warming would currently be significantly greater since more sunlight would reach the earth instead of being reflected into space.

Of course global warming is a real problem. Nothing is normal any more. For the last few years we didn't have Autumn or Spring (in my country). It skipped from winter to summer. And now it should be snowing but it's still really hot like in summer. That is just one small example that i see on my own without scientists saying anything.

Look around you. This world is changing faster than any records have ever seen. We've screwed things up so badly it's not funny. Yes, temperatures are low now... because it's winter. Wait until summer, when the heat's back. And wait a couple years. Hurricane Katrina will look like a scattered shower. And a couple years after that, it'll happen again and even bigger. Earth quakes are happening more often and are getting larger, floods are happening all over the world, winters are more harsh than ever before and summers are brutal heat.

We're in big trouble boys and girls.

I think it is very questionable. Too much in doubt for us to spend billions of dollars on something that may not be a big problem to begin with.

AlGore claims to have invented the Internet and now he is one of the big backers of the Global Warming scare. That should tell you enough. I think it is, as my grandpa would say "Hogwash"

yeah, I dont think its a real problem.

I do get tired of both those that oppose it and those that support the theory always being like ha ha lookie lookie, its cold global warming must not exist, or lookie lookie, its hot global warming exists...its all just signs of ignorance IMO.
