Both of the browsers on my computer are having trouble loading web pages. I called my ISP and they said that the line and the connection are good. They suggested that the problem is with my pc. Is there any way to diagnose what the issue is? Thanks.

I have deleted all the temp files and cookies. It seems to be all pages. It takes several minutes to load or I get a page will not load screen. A few hours later it works fine, then when I get home from work in the evening it is not working again. Is this an MTU issue?

Could you describe the problems your browsers are having? Are they slow in loading up graphics, or do you get a "page cannot be displayed", any other issue?

If you are using a wireless connection to your router, make sure you don't have a wireless phone with the same frequency around your router or between your pc and the router. Also make sure you have the same channel in your wireless settings as the router.

If you use a wired connection, try and use a newer CAT5 (ethernet cable).
Could Tech support "see" your modem ? were they able to ping your modem ? I assume they did by your question.
If they were able to, I suggest you disconnect your PC and run your antivirus, antispyware. Also another thing to make sure is delete your temporary files. An excellent program that's very easy to use is CCleaner. It will take care of all the small files you actually don't need at all (installation remnants, temp files, etc..) and free you up a few MB of space.

Other than that, maybe you just need to upgrade on memory. How old is your PC ? What processor? How much RAM do you have?

Ok you added the last section: the bandwith is shared in DSL and Cable. Don't forget when signing on at a certain time of the day with everyone else doin the same thing your connection to the net will slow down, but not as much as you describe. If your ISP oversubscribe (like one of the answers below me said) you are definitely going to experience a jam, ask your neighbors if they have the same issue.

Your additional details tells me a lot. You say that in the evening things slow down.

Even though your line (DSL or Cable?)checks out ok by your ISP, both technologies are a shared environment with your neighbors. My guess is that you have some bandwidth hogs living nearby, or that your ISP has over subscribed their network.

Go to dslreports.com and run some of the speed tests they have in their tools section at different times during the day/night. You can then compare your results with others in your zip code and use this as amunition against your ISP to fix their problem. Note: If they are charging you for a specific bandwidth level of service, they need to justify the added costs.

That depends on which web pages they are having trouble loading? Any web page, or just certain pages?

If you use the internet a lot your computer's temporary files fills up and slows down your computer considerably, so what you need to do is go to the My Computer icon and click on it then click on control panel and then click on internet options and then click on delete files. when you do this you will not delete anything important just junk and if you're still slow you will then need to do a virus scan. GOOD LUCK!
