as i know such female star like Pamela Anderson ranks high in North America, is it sort of national attribute? icon of the country?

Largely because she is a hit with the gay community, that seems to just turn mainstream America off... which is a shame cause she's a hottie with excellent taste in cars (Like the DeTomaso Mangusta from the "Can't Get You Outta My Head" video).
Heck, I only know of her because I've spent quite a bit of time in AU.

Kylie Minogue is not as popular because we only know one hit of hers in the US and I can't even remember the title...
Pam Anderson used to be popular, not so much anymore...
This nation seems obsessed with the Paris Hilton, Brangelina ( Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie for those who have been living under a rock), Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes etc......

Ok first...what in the world do Kylie and Pam have in common???
Second...Pam is not an icon of the country, I don't know what would lead you to believe that.
Third...Honestly, I think we are a very unforgetting, unforgiving country. I own two Kylie cd's and every time I hear her name here..it is quickly followed by "singer of the 80s song, locomotion"
So sadly, that's all they really remember about her. I think she's better than that.

I've been a huge Kylie fan since the 80's. She was never really marketed for the US. Most of her singles weren't released in the US, except for Locomotion and Lucky. Can't get you out of my head was a fluke, it hit big right when she was preparing for her Fever Tour.

It's a cultural thing I guess. Like the way Cliff Richard was the big thing in England before the Beatles came along and never made it that well in America.

Im an American residing in England, i could say that British music isnt virtually as commonplace in united states as American music is in England. don't get me incorrect there are some British bands that get popularity interior the States yet no longer a ton.

Not sure why, but the only song that she made that i'm familliar with is "Love At First Sight". I'm glad that she got over breast cancer though. That was awful
