It's easy to unlock the door with a "slim-jim." You can make one out of a metal yard-stick and cut a 45 degree notch about 1 inch from the bottom. I own a '93 Cavalier and have done it a couple of times. Some police departments keep slim-jims in their cars and will help you out. In my city, you have to wait for an available cop...it's a pretty low priority (unless the car is running or there's a kid locked inside...then the fire department comes right out.)

They have you sign a damage waiver before they try to open the door in case the paint or glass gets a little scratched.

A bent coat hanger will work too...if you insert it between the glass and the weatherstripping...toward the door handle. You're trying to feel for a metal rod that needs to be pulled up and toward the rear of the car.

Realistically though, it's kinda hard to describe this in words...it'll take practice. Your best bet is to call AAA or a locksmith...or take the VIN to a GM dealer where they can recreate a key...they might require proof-or-ownership...or something like that.

Have you learned your lesson, if not you will once you pay the bill to have it unlocked. Sometime today have someone unlock it for you probably a tow truck company or a police officer.

After you do this go buy yourself one of those magnetic key holders and put a spare key in it. and then place it somewhere underneath the car on the frame so you'll be able to retrieve it.

or carry a spare key in your wallet or purse.

Because of liability issues, the police have stopped doing it for the most part, if so in your area call the local towing service. We are well versed at opening vehicles, and not as high in price as most of the lock smiths. Also if you have roadside assistance programs, perhaps on your cell phone, or maybe (ugh) Triple A, call them and see if they will do it for you. It will take longer probably, but the price (free) can't be beat.

The answer to your question is a simple one... you could call a lock smith to open your car but it will cost you a weeks wages for his 5 min. work. or, you can write down your V I N number that you will find behind the driverside winshild on the top of the dashbord, take that number to any GM dealership and they will make you a door key for $2.50 I would seguest the latter. dont try to open the door with a coat hanger as this will damage all of your door seals and cost more to fix then the lock smith!

I used to have a Chevy Cavalier. And a similar situation. verify it really is in park and save twiddling with the element till it turns. flow the steerage wheel round together. it is going to turn ultimately.

1. brake the window easy.
2. hanger trick. ask a nabore for help if they can.
3. lock smith.
4. if it were a 1995 or newer just go to dealer and get a key made with the vin and paperwork.

p.s. always have a spare in your house or safety deposit box.

you need to either call a towing company to unlock it for you or get in touch with a relative that knows how to do it with a clothes hanger. or if by some dumb luck you live in the lafayette indiana area i will come do it for you.

Set in on fire, the heat from this will cause the windows to break and then once the fires has been extinguished you can get your keys
