the first time I got my cervix measured I was 1cm. 2 weeks later I got it checked again and I was 11/2 cm and the doctor said the baby moved down a LOT. So I was wondering, does it usually take the same amount of time dilating as it has been until active labor? I know once your at 4 cm it speeds up but how much can it speed up before that?

There is no way to tell when you will dilate how fast you will dilate. Its Just a course of action. i say the next time you go in you could still be at a 1/12 to a 2 could be a three. and even after 4 cm you could still dilate very very slow. believe me with my first i was in labor for 14 hours due to the cervix not dilating. there is something they can give you during active labor that will speed up the dilation process only if you or the baby is in distress. good luck.

Everyone is different. I find if your water hasn't broke by 3-4 cm then ask your doctor to break it. This sped up the process for me 5 times!
