My wife is six months pregnant and has been experiencing nosebleeds everyday, especially in the morning and then some throughout the day. It seems as if everything we bring up to the OB/GYN doctors they are so quick to brush it off as just part of pregnancy, is this something to be concerned about or is it "just part of being pregnant"?

nosebleeds do tend to occur more often during pregnancy. Pregnancy can cause the blood vessels in your nose to expand, and your increased blood supply puts more pressure on those delicate vessels, causing them to rupture more easily. Although it's unpleasant and inconvenient, an occasional minor nosebleed is generally harmless.

You're especially likely to get a nosebleed when you have a cold, sinus infection, or allergies, or when the membranes inside your nose dry out, as they do in cold weather, air-conditioned rooms, airline cabins, and other dry environments. Trauma and certain medical conditions, such as high blood pressure or a clotting disorder, may cause nosebleeds as well.

to avoid getting a nosebleed

• Drink extra fluids to help keep all of your mucous membranes well hydrated.

• Blow your nose gently. Aggressive blowing can lead to nosebleeds.

• Try to keep your mouth open when you sneeze.

• Avoid dry air, especially in wintertime or in dry climates, by running a humidifier inside your house and not overheating your bedroom. Also stay away from irritants like smoke, which you should be avoiding anyway.

• Use a lubricant to prevent nasal dryness. Some experts recommend petroleum jelly. Others suggest a special water-based nasal lubricant that is available over the counter at pharmacies. Saline nasal sprays or drops can help, too.

• Don't overuse medicated nasal sprays or decongestants. They can dry out and further irritate your nose.

I didn't have nosebleeds while I was pregnant. But for most of the country, it has been dry, perfect condition for a nosebleed. The lining of the nose cracks (much like your hands in the winter) and sometimes it bleeds. How much is it bleeding? Does it bleed for more than a minute or two? If it bleeds very little, you should still bring it up to your doctor again because it's daily. If it bleeds a lot daily, you need to tell your doctor AGAIN that you are concerned. If they still brush it off, get a second opinion. Nosebleeds can be a sign of adinoid problems and that can require surgery. A humidifier is a great recommendation. Also, try saline nasal spray. (Not the Afrin stuff) It helps keep the tissue moist as well.

It's just part of being pregnant I'm afraid. I didn't get nosebleeds, but I did have a bunged up nose throughout! No fun. It's to do with the additional blood being pumped around your body and all the membranes getting thinner. Great, huh?

It is common for pregnant women to get nosebleeds. Some of us pregnant women noses will even spread. Tell her it will slow down some soon. I am 29wks and still occasionally get a nose bleed. Congrats and good luck.

Yes! It's due to the extra blood in your system. I've been getting little ones all through pregnancy but never even had one prior to getting pregnant.

I do recall my wife having nose bleeds with our first child, but I don't think it was every day. I don't recall her having that problem with our second or third child, and she hasn't had any of that recently (she is pregnant with our 4th).

i've never heard of that one before, maybe the air is just too dry in your house. so try a humidifier in your room to see if that helps.
