Ed Reed is the best free safety in football, when healthy. I love Lynch's work ethic and drive but Reed is in hs prime, Lynch is past his.

Ed reed by far. Ed reed was the defensive player of the year 2 years ago, he plays for a team that ranked first in opposing team points this year and opposing team yardage. When ray lewis is not on the field he is considered the defensive captain. John Lynch plays on a team who's secondary is completely biased by the fact that they have Champ Bailey (Denver Secondary had 17 total INTs this year, Bailey had 10). Lastly from statistical standpoint, Ed Reed is much better as well.

John Lynch:
84 tackles (59 solo)
0 sacks
0 INTs
2 FFs
5 Passes Defended
0 safeties
0 defensive td

Ed Reed:
60 tackles (52 solo)
0 sacks
5 INTs
1 FF
9 Passes Defended
1 SAFETY
1 Defensive TD

I think its clear Ed Reed deserves the spot more and that in fact, John Lynch really doesn't even deserve a pro bowl spot at all.

Depends on what you want the Safety to do for your team. Do you want a headhunting missile to help shore up the run defense? In that case Lynch is your best bet. He is reminiscent of Steve Atwater or Andre Waters. If you want the constant threat of a turnover machine Ed Reed is your guy. He just seems to know how to time passes and be there at the right time to make the INT.

Ed Reed is a phenomonal player, but John Lynch was also. It's kinda like apples and oranges, but if I had to pick one it would be Reed.

I think you can look at stats but that doesn't always say everything. What John Lynch does for his team on and off the field makes him more valuable to his team. He is a proven leader for a defense that started off pretty darn well last year. He plays every play at full 100% and makes very few mistakes.

There's no comparison at all.

Lynch was past his prime 3 years ago. Reed is still getting better.
