M y 92 plymouth sundance heater will only blow through defrost. I push the buttons for floor, vents, vents and floor but will only blow through defroster. When I push the defroster I notice a loss in power when I'm driving.

the blend door motor is vacuum operated. when there is no vacuum to the selector, it goes to defrost. find the vacuum leak above the pass front floor board or vacuum from the intake manifold. that will fix it

I'm not sure about your car, it could be a fuse though.

My Mini Cooper does the same thing. It only blows through the defroster until the heater warms up and then once the air is warm it slowly comes through the rest of the vents. This is so you don't get a blast of cold air right in your face when you first turn your car on.

I would check your fuses and if that all looks good then take it to a shop and have them do a check on it to pinpoint the problem. They usually do this for free and then you can decide weather you want to fix it yourself or if you want them to fix it.

That is the default setting when there is a vacuum leak in the controller. Replace or repair the vacuum line that is leaking.
