Inflation is what is coming with hikes to interest rates, It is already happening Nation wide with the repossession of homes at the rate of 40%. There is no way anyone can call Bush's economy stable with his open-ended financial commitment to his open-ended war in Iraq. It costs money to borrow money, plain and simple here.

Norway is going to spend 650 Billion dollars on Iraq? I didn't even know they were over in Iraq? You must have been referring to the US budget.
As far as the US goes 650 Billion isn't even 25% of the proposed budget. I say proposed because Congress actually sets the budget. The President only proposes it. The Budget for 2008 is proposed to be 2.9Trillion, as such the number you heard doesn't equate to 25%.
The expected expense for Iraq AND Afghanistan is about 250 Billion. Iraq accounts for about 200 Billion. And I agree it could be better spent. It could be better spent in Iraq and Afghanistan. But you see there are those people who do not want law and order. And they keep making the US and GB spend the money in other ways.
As far as the divide the country goes. You see how well that has worked in Palestine and Israel. Need I say more? I will anyway. You split the country by ethnicity and you have Shiites in the south with oil, Kurds in the north with oil, and the Sunnis in the middle with next to nothing. You really think they will go for that?

How does a civilized Scandanavian come to terms with the mentality of a barbaric American? Americans are mostly against better social security and health care - so long as they are an American who feels confident they will never fall into the poverty trap. The average elector feels those who do fall into the poverty trap can rot. They are unlikely to help a dying man in the gutter. Most Americans would much rather spend money on going to war than social improvement. The Gun Lobby is strong, the view of any other life form than a middle class white American is compromised to the point that extinction of those outside those parameters would not trouble most middle American consciences.
That the lobby fodder in America has been duped into paying for a war by which businesses, particularly oil, but also construction, and security industries have generated vast profits at the cost of tax payers dollars and soldiers lives is soemthing which seems to escape most Americans. A people that stupid are never likely to be receptive to your logical, rational, empathetic arguments - you're hitting your head against a brick wall I fear. .

Your number is right.
I don't know how I feel yet. I will let you know when I see how my mutual funds are doing next year!
The U.S. dollar is getting weak relative to other economies because we are spending money we don't have on a war that we are losing badly.
Oh well.

25% is fine with me...one of the only things the government should fund is the military. I absolutely believe the government has too much control and too much say in all of our lives. Support of the military and our armed forces is necessary, just, and admirable.
