In my house, we have this room that we call the "Sun Room". Its a room where we keep most of our plants, its very earthy, and theirs windows and a big glass sliding door covering 3 out of 4 walls.

My question is, will i get the same effects of the sun from sitting in this bright room as i would from being outside? Can I still absorb vitamin D even though the sun is comming through a window?

Also, I do suffer from depression, not as badly as a few years ago..but every now and then i do get into depressed moods. It tends to be more in the winter and its probably caused from lack of sunlight. the SAD disease. Can sunlight through a window possibly treat this? or again, does it have to be DIRECT sunlight?

I know that too much sun exposure is no good...thats not a consern of mine. My main consern is that i'm not getting enough sunlight to produce the good effects.

Unfortunately NO. The sunlight waves that are needed for making vitamin D DON'T pass through the glass, so you need direct sunlight.

Concerning your mood studies have proved that there are some people who are UV light dependent, and tend to get more depressed in short days. As a treatment it was suggested to treat them with Direct sunlight. So again glass will not do the job.

For viatmin D, you need the UV rays and glass will block it. But UV rays are harmful so its better to get vitamin D from food in my opinion.
Light therapy lights for SAD are UV free. If you have one of these bright lights, you wouldn't need direct sunlight.

At least you acknowledge the fact that they are mythological. Each culture has their versions of vampires. The most common version of vampire is killed with sunlight or any other very bright source of light. Candles aren't really powerful enough.

no, the winter pane filters some of the rays you need.
plus part of the experience is getting out in the fresh air and getting the "stink" of the house blown off you..this is what my grandfather used to call it..
wear some protection for your eyes and don't over expose yourself as love is blind but the neighbors ain't
