There seems to be a pattern, especially in the areas of morality and ethics, where extremist views get credited more than balanced views. I assume because the creditors agree that a strong view either way is better than a balanced response.

Do people think the whole forum provides the balance or are they just unbalanced.

Or what?

'But what I do get is that you are not pleased with the answers that are chosen as best answers (at least I think that's what you mean)

I mean I find that answering to one extreme of the debate frightening. I prefer the pros, cons, and choice between them.

Yeh, yeh, evening out, democracy etc. etc. but do you find them frightening regardless of that????

'Honestly, I don't see the balance I'd expected...

But do we assume this doesn't frighten you?

'At the same time if the best answer is chosen by the answerer it can only be expected that they will more than likely choose the one that most agrees with what they want to hear.'

Don't think so! I ask ones that I don't know the answer to and I choose the one that I learn most from.

I think where religion and politics are concerned, it gets pretty volatile, including crediting/discrediting, and I know this dissuades people from asking. The whole point is to ask, and that's my only disappointment. I wonder how much the dis/crediting sways opinion. But asking is key, and I think we should stop assuming that generic questions pertain to Americans only- it's an international forum with many different points of view.
Honestly, I don't see the balance I'd expected, but questioners- and the number of questioners- at least implies the complexity of the issues.

Not frightening, disconcerting. They seem to be knee-jerk reactions to very difficult times that require responsible decisions. The media isn't helping. My opinion only.

I must admit that your question is somewhat ambiguous. I'm not sure that I get the full gist of it. But what I do get is that you are not pleased with the answers that are chosen as best answers (at least I think that's what you mean) and on that I have some issues as well but only somewhat. There seems to be a tendency to choose a best answer based on the length of the answer. At the same time if the best answer is chosen by the answerer it can only be expected that they will more than likely choose the one that most agrees with what they want to hear.

All in all though, this forum is truly wonderful. It proves that there are a LOT of people out there who are genuinely interested in helping other people out by sharing knowledge and advice. To me, that is of way more relevance and importance that ratings or biased credits ro discredits. Some people are in it for the ratings while others are in it to share and at the same time gain knowledge. I have learned just as much as I have shared on here.

I hope I didn't misunderstand the question/issue. If I did, I apologize.

cheers!

The fact that this "forum" is publically open and available, to millions, suggests, even in a Scientific sense (which Philosophy is not), that the ODDS of a balance, happen. That certainly can also be analogized often in many ways, IE: Ocean Tides.

More directly, and absolute is that Philosophy, theory, opinions, etc., are cyclical, and Karmic in a sense, as they go around and come around again.

The greatest "freedom" we as a species have is "Choice" and occasionaly use it unwisely, but to express, even in disagreeing, opens to others, at least, the option and belief that we need not all share the same "Philosophies" to co-exist.

Hi,I agree with you I prefer a balanced response. On here we have a mixture which I also think is good it would be boring if we all shared the same opinions.

Maybe it's better to have a wrong opinion than to have no opinions at all?
