I mean, back when it started, it was a drive for Gay Pride and was a needed instrument to force change and acceptance.

But now it seems to have evolved into a Sydney Council sanctioned public display of how much fun the gay community can have by taking over the streets during an ecstasy, and other drugs, induced euphoria!

Are Sydney's, Australia's and the World's gay communities still so insecure that they need to parade through the cities, in what could only be called an aged request for an acceptance that has already been achieved.

A point to note: There aren't any drives to have a Hetero Pride Parade. Is that because they don't have to prove a point? Or is it because they are comfortable with themselves?

First off, "Mardi Gras" is translated to "Fat Tuesday" it's a catholic celebration before the beginning of lent.

If the Auzzies have changed it into something else, well, I'd chalk it up to "Those silly Auzzies."

On the subject of Gay Pride parades in general.
My answer is: Yes! Until gays/lesbains/bisexuals and transgenders are accepted and given their EQUALITY world wide, Yes, these "displays" are in fact still needed!

As far as you assertation of there being no "drives to have Hetero Pride" I might remind you that Mardi Gras in the States as well as In Reo are both HEAVILY HETERO, with public lewd HETERO behavior in the streets!
Here in the States, St. Patrick's Day is another heavily hetero mish-mosh as well. Public drunkeness and lewd behavior is rampant during both these celebrations.
Not to mention the Rampant Heterosexuality in ALL forms of Entertainment and media.

What do you call "Freak dancing"? It's an EXTREME form of sexual content...and personally...I've ONLY ever seen it displayed in the HETERO community.

Sory, you'll have to prove that the supposed drug use during the event is a fact before your statement has any actual relevance.
Hetero pride? Tell ya what, as soon as people are beaten, harassed, refused apartments, fired from jobs, attacked by religious zealots, and have to fight to try and get their marriages recognized as legal, you can have a parade celebrating your hetero pride.

When gay rights can become as equal as rights for heterosexuals.. maybe things will change...

We are comfortable with ourselves.

Its called pride, maybe you should look up the definition, better yet here it is....
1. a high or inordinate opinion of one's own dignity, importance, merit, or superiority, whether as cherished in the mind or as displayed in bearing, conduct, etc.
2. the state or feeling of being proud.
3. a becoming or dignified sense of what is due to oneself or one's position or character; self-respect; self-esteem.
4. pleasure or satisfaction taken in something done by or belonging to oneself or believed to reflect credit upon oneself: civic pride.

Here's my very simple and hopefully concise answer:

Who cares? If people want to have a party, festival or whatever, why should you, me and anyone care.

Don't rain on someone else's parade or one day they may rain on yours.
