In conversation, I will refer to my Family - cousins, uncles, aunts, not my nuclear family. To avoid confusing listeners is there a better way to describe an extensive family in conversation so the listern knows I'm refering to a generation, not just mom & pop.

Just say, "my extended family." That's the appropriate term.

Anyone outside of your mom, pops and siblings is called "extended family"
