Crocodiles in general have very powerful jaw muscles. Sharks have really large jaws.

All crocodiles and alligators have strong jaws. The muscles allowing their jaws to close are extremely powerful. However, the muscles allowing their jaws to open is much less so. It is possible to keep one from opening its jaws, but once the jaws are open, the jaws will close around anything that it can.

Sharks do not have powerful jaws. However, they can rip and tear their prey like nothing else. A shark will take a bite and stay there, continuing to bite, rip, and tear. A shark will not easily let go until it has gotten a good bite in its mouth.

My answer is this: the saltwater (nile) crocodile.

A croc has UP to 3000 pounds per square inch.
A shark can produce a pressure of greater than 1000 pounds per square inch

So the obviously the croc wins....:)

Croc. The great white has sharper teeth though. The great white's teeth are designed for shredding flesh, the croc's teeth are desgined for crushing and or tearing bone to powder. Both are devastating bites but the croc has more "power" if you are talking about pounds per inch kind of power. A hippo kicks both of their asses though.

The croc, their jaws lock, because they drown their prey and they don't want them getting loose. Sharks bite and chew, so their jaws don't lock.
