Isn't there something a little bit sad or desperate about people who claim a dog is their best friend? Wouldn't it be more healthy to choose your friends from the same species? Aren't they mistaking a dogs inability to communicate for total acceptance and understanding?

Wow, you put some thought into this question. People only say man's best friend metaphorically, not literally. It's because we have had them domesticated for so long, they depend on us to survive, so they better be friendly, or starve to death.

well....you have a point. i think it's because if you're dog love you and you love it, the dog is loyal to you no matter what, unlike a lot of humans. i say to not worry about it at all....:)
