My friend is going through a divorce and we're trying to determine if her husband is lying about going to aa. He claims he's been sober for 30+ days and just got a new sponsor and just bought the book. Does this mesh? Would he be buying book or is he given it? Any other ways to test him to see if he's lying?

Yes, it 'meshes'. If he is new to the program it seems to me that he is doing what he says he is doing. No new person would know some of the things like sponsors and 'big book'. Any way, it is an anonymous program, so you can't ask some one if they have seen him in a meeting.

None of these things say he is NOT lying, but you do buy the book and you do get a sponsor. I am sure if he could not buy one, there a plenty of used ones someone might give him, but I bought the Big and small book years ago.

If they are divorcing, it's really none of her business whether or not he's going to AA and it's definitely none of yours. Alcoholic's Anonymous not Alcholics Shout It From the Roof Tops.

he's new to being sober, and a lot of AA members BUY their Big Book... tell your friend to go to a couple of Al-Anon meetings, and they will help her

If she is divorcing him why does she care if he goes to the meetings or not?
