is this a serious question?????????????? not only will they end the playoff drought this year, they very well could be a serious force to be reckoned with for years to come;half of the roster, it seems, can't drink legally in the states; just wait til they mature..............................

At this point of the season, the Penguins are in 5th place in their conference, and the top eight make it into the playoffs. And, unless they win their division (which they probably won't), chances are the Penguins will be lining up from around 4th-8th in the East.
Only 13 points separate the 4th place team from the 14th in the East, so the Penguins can't drop consecutive games from now until the end of the season. their young players must show a consistency level and bring it to the rink every night if they want to be in the postseason.
As far as talent is concerned, if they play at their best, they should make the playoffs with ease. The only thing holding them back is their maturity and age. Other than that, the Penguins are one of the most skilled teams in the NHL, and if they don't make the playoffs this year, it will be OK because they definetley will be for the next 10!!

After winning their last 9 of 11 games and only losing the 2 in overtime, the Penguins really have it together now. However, the NHL season is rigorously long and just to get through it without major injuries is an accomplishment. I think if the Pens can stay healthy and possibly pick up a couple of veterans to increase their depth, they should make the playoffs with plenty to spare. Mark Recchi is one of the few oldsters on the team, but the youngsters are playing very eager hockey now and I think they have gelled with each other the more they've played. Go Pens!

Yes, they will.
They look more like a playoff team than the Leafs or Islanders do. The only team not currently in the top 8 that I would see making the playoffs this year is the Rangers, but I feel the Pens can stay above the Hurricanes and Lightning.
Still, Pens won't win the cup unless Fleury gets really hot.

Their current pace just says can they win the division. I honestly think they make the playoffs and probably "host" the series. If they don't end up with injuries they should be able to get to the second round. They have also played the AHL playoffs last year(alot of the stars) so they have a clue. They don't know the NHL level though.

Yes, easily. With Crosby and Malkin both in the top ten in points scored the future is bright for the Penguins. They will most likely make it as a 6 or 7 seed.

Who knows? With the exception of the Flyers and Panthers, the entire Eastern Conference has a good chance of making the playoffs. I know the Leafs are only two games back of fourth...and they're sitting in 9th right now. Again, it's still a coinflip for most teams.
Go Leafs.

I don't know if they can keep up the pace they're at but I certainly wouldn't count them out. Oh, and if it kept the Rangers OUT of the playoffs, that'd be a plus!
