some babies start on food earlier than others. You might want to stick with baby cereal and a couple of veggies (like sweet potatoes) the stuff that is really non allergic. Look at what 6 month olds eat and go with that.
Call the Dr. too, they may suggest increasing the formula, and they can help you determine how much he should be eating, and what is good to feed him right now.

Nope. Most doctors recommend starting at 4-6 months. I started mine at 3 months because he seemed the same way. And, that was what my peditrician recommended I do (he was nearly 10 lbs when born) because he just needed it early.
I think mom's know best not the goons like me on yahoo :)))
When I started mine I'd start anything new in the morning. That way if he had a reaction it'd be during the day not at night. And, that way we'd not loose sleep. My son eat every fruit and veggie within the month no allergy problems. Just try the food for 3-5 days before starting another. I usually went with the 3 because I didn't want him to be afraid to try other stuff.
The only thing he had an allergic reaction to was eggs. And, turns out I shouldn't have given them to him until he was a year old. But, I have a baby book that recommends eggs at 6 months...looking back I probably should've asked my doctor at the wellness visit.

It's fine to start him on solids at 4 1/2 months. Start with baby rice and add new foods one at a time to see how he copes with them. We started on baby rice and then added sieved banana and yoghurt.
Do make sure to start offering water in a cup with a spout when you start giving solid food as he may get a bit dehydrated otherwise.
NEVER add anything else to the formula in his bottle. Some people have suggested thickening formula with baby rice and other cereals it IS VERY BAD to do that!!!

This is what I did for both my sons because they were the same way. I would prepare the formula and I would add Baby Cereal to it. I would put 2 ounces of Baby Cereal for 8 ounces of formula. My sons would get so full, they would fall asleep before they finished drinking their bottle. Try it and see what happens!!

Four months sounds perfect, especially if he's ready for it...and sounds like he is.
