I have an E-System 3086 laptop with only usb connections (no ps/2). Already have a ps/2 to usb adapter, but the laptop won't recognise it. I have tried all methods of installation and checked the BIOS, but no relevent options. Any help gratefully appreciated?

Try a different connector. Not all connectors use the same wiring diagrams. So a different brand may work. See this all the time at work. (Sorry can not recommend a brand, because the one that works varies with each brand of laptop).

However, for the price of a new adaptor, you could get a USB mouse. A USB mouse will always work better that a PS/2 with an adaptor.

Bottom line, just get a USB mouse...

1. Name, model of mouse?
2. Do you have the drivers, CD for it?
3. Does windows popup and error message saying that your hardware might now work when you plug in that mouse?

As that's a newer system setup, your USB should detect a mouse. The only other issue is if it's not a common type, logitech, etc..then windows will notify with a popup on the taskbar that your hardware isn't funtioning properly, in which case you would need the driver for that mouse.

They do make adapters that will let you plug a PS2 mouse into the parallel (printer) port. Check at Best Buy. Walmart or your local computer store. Look for a PS2 to Parallel adaptor.
