Laptop Specs: USB ver 1, Firewire 400

You could except for the fact that there's no such thing as a USB to Firewire cable.

You should be able to, that is what the cord converter is for. You just plug the firewire port into the firewire end and the usb port into the usb port end. It should work. That is unless there is something wrong.

Be better just to connect it to a USB port. Will operate faster. If you are low on USB ports, invest in a USB hub. Probably run you about the same amount (I got one a couple days ago for $9 at Walmart) and will give you additional USB ports should you need to add any more devices.
