Pros: Easy to prepare as it is prepacked. Helps those who dont have the time, facilities or inablility to cook a normal meal. Benefits in an emergency situation like when one has unexpected guests for food. Standardization possible due to mass production. Available in most places in large grocery shops.

Cons: Normally costly if taken on regular basis. Preservatives added like salt, sugar, etc. may be injurious to health if taken often. Some loss of nutritive value when compared to freshly prepared food of the same composition due to pre-heating necessary before eating. Loses nutritive value due to limited shelf life. Taste cannot be varied as it is factory made which means uniformity in methods of preparation, leading to dislike for this type of food if eaten often.

It's the age-old dilemma between what's best now and what's best longer term. People differ genetically as to how much they tend to lean one way or the other, like the grasshopper and the ant. So convenience foods have a place on the shelf, and each of us finds the role for them in our life that we are comfortable with.
