videohelp.com has a dvd player section that lists if your player has a "hack" that will enable region free playback.

was just looking into that last night, have a look at this site, they have a list of all makes and models of dvd players and the codes needed. I have just finishing watching the 1st series of a show, only to find the 2nd series hasn't been released as region 2!!!

yes ,you can either buy a region free dvd player or try find your model online search for region free codes find a site and search for your dvd player model ,Although if memory serves me well Sony can be hard to find for but that was ages ago.
Codes normally entered by your remote control but the sites should give out full instructions.

Yes it is. But you have to unlock your dvd player to play region 1 dvds. You can search the net for your make/model of dvd player and you should find how to unlock it.
