Because they do not know how to think for themselves. Americans have pride that is blind sometimes. However, I will take that back for the time being as lately this Iraq issue has gotten alot of Americans to wake up. I think we are going to see a shift in change with the general populations attitude towards the rest of the world. Many of the soldiers from WWII are no longer around and then the memories of Vietnam and countless other severe losses will be fresh and at that point, I can see this next generation trying to get away from all that. The older, more religious people tend to argue about how "Great and wonderful" the U.S. is and how they would not want to live anywhere else because it is the greatest country in the world. There's pride and then there is pride/with ignorance. The second is very scary. (My in-laws' family is like that.). Very hard for me as I am from a different country. They spout off all the time, and I can't really say much to change their minds, so I don't even bother defending anymore (they talk more, don't want to listen)

They're talking about WW2. I think Americans must be getting fed up to the back teeth of all the Yank bashing that goes on on this Q&A site - I know I am and I'm English.

They believe that they would have been able to fight the Germans, Italians and Japanese at the both time like we did for so many years.

So not true. otherwise they wouldn't have asked us to continue to fight the Japanese after the Nazis gave up.

anyways, the US has never managed to win a war by itself....

We just joke about WWII, WWI, Cold War, Serbia and stuff like that. Im proud to be American for my own Reasons. But is this really a question? Or a statement? I dont want to be rude but I dont think that this really is a question. (I could be wrong!)

I am proud to be an American. I suppose it is taken as an insult for a European to ask a question of this nature.

Both World Wars were on European shores, and we intervened. Vietnam was a French intervention.

Perhaps if France would stop bailing on us, our attitude would be better.

OMG.. .. . I haven't had the chance to read the other responses yet, but I can't wait to see what others said .
You ask. .. What charity and what wars ? Ho Ho Ho. .. . WWII - does that ring a bell . Europe was over-run by the Nazis.. . . .some even capitulated or simply surrendered (France ) . The defeat was an Allied effort, but there's no doubt, AMERICA was the leader, the strongest, and we ended it with Normandy and 2 well placed atomic bombs .

Americans think they world owes them something but who helps them out when they go to war and cant get a grip of it? Us Brits do and then they still shoot us as they go mad at war.
