without actually meeting each other. Nonetheless, they profess their love for each other like it was the real thing.

My question is: Is that really possible? What happened to Love as I knew it?

I think that in the majority of cases that it does feel like love but in some 'fantasy state'. The excitement of looking to see if that person is on-line, or that they may have sent you an email or a text message must become quite addictive and that evolves over time to a type of lust/love.

OLL, may or may not have sent pictures, but you can be who you want to be on line without having to prove anything...(at the begining!)

You have less inhibitions, and perhaps people can talk more freely.

Also, without the pysical connection, words are very very powerful and OLL and texts are all about WORDS, and so I believe you take more of what they are saying/typing much more deeply than you would have with a face to face conversation.

I wouldn't question' is it really possible?', because everyone's perception of love is different, and people that feel the emotion of love from an OLL who are we to question that?

Who are we to question other's peoples' feelings at all?

Great question by the way.

Just my opinion, but...

I don't think that they could really love each other. At least not in the sense that I know love. There is no hugging, kissing, hand holding, long stares into each others eyes. No going out to shows, movies, concerts, or sporting events. No dates-period! No special little things like breakfast in bed for the lil' lady, or starting her car for her when it's REALLY cold outside. No long walks or anniversary dinners. To me, these are all things that can only be done if you actually meet someone. And these are also things that show your love for someone. Perhaps there are those that profess their love via text, but try holding on to a text message on cold, lonely night and see if it helps.....I doubt that it will.

But again, this is just my opinion!

My sweetheart and I are a prime example of finding love online. We are both older (50s) so we are not starry eyed teens either. We met here on Y ! Q & A and began emailing each other. Then we started talking on the phone. We fell in love before we even met. We found out enough about each other's personalities to realize we were meant to be together. We emailed and talked by phone for about 4 months and then just spent time together in December. -- and then we knew for sure it was true love.(but we really knew already). We are seeing each other this weekend for a few days and already planning for me to go to his home state to spend a week there in April --meet his family and friends. I will be moving there this summer and we will be together the rest of our lives.
So it is possible to fall in love online but to make it a real part of your life you do need to eventually really get together.

I would rather meet someone in person than online, what mistakes I have made in the past doing that, I don't even bother with online dating services anymore, because they seem to be full of scammers and I want someone who is real and not a user. Or a liar. =)

i think it's possible because real love is not only the physical aspect. it can start with knowing the person intimately but only through words. and i think it will have a stronger foundation if two people first know what each other is feeling than engaging in their physical needs first.

the way I see it is that you can choose your words more carefully online and omit things about yourself, that you OLL can't find out. So can that really be love?
BUT some people swear by it so...

I have seen it a lot lately especially on 360. You do get attached to people easily when you talk all the time. So who knows?

No it is not possible. U need to be with a person in the flesh to know if he/she is the right one for u.
