An example of weighted average is GPA.

For example:
You get an A in a 2 credit class and a B in a 5 credit class. Using a 4.0 scale, A=4 points, B=3 points, so the GPA is calculated by:

(points*credits + points*credits)/total credits
= (4*2 + 3*5)/(2+5)
= (8+15)/7
= 23/7
= 3.29 (approx)

A weighted average means that you give emphasis to one or more numbers in your list. You might count certain ones twice or by an extra 10%. You need to know the weighting factors (multipliers) you want and what numbers to use them on.
