My brother wants to get into trucking. Does anyone know of any links or info that he can get to that will give him more info. He wants info on what kind of loans and grants he can get. He also wants to know what he needs to do as far as schooling or learning what he needs. Any help and/or info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!

Be careful of a job that will hire you and put you into their school for a 6 week course or whatever and then turn you loose on the road. Some of them are terrible. Prime, Inc for instance. Unless it has gotten ALOT better, it is awful. AND most of them make a bundle on the old "company store" premise. You know what that means? They send you to school, lease you a truck, rent/sell you (on credit) all the equipment you need or or THINK you need, send you out on the road. When you flop because you have no idea what you are doing..they are happy to put that on your credit report.

You would be better off going down to the local Vo-Tech and taking an independent class in Trucking. If you must you can usually arrange student loans to get you through. You can also usually get a Pell Grant. Or you can go the old fashioned route and just find someone to teach you. That is usually the easiest but if you don't know anyone, it can be a pain. That is what I did. My ex husband went to one of the independent schools, then he drove for several years. When we decided to go on the road as a team, he taught me to drive. I have since quit. :)

I have heard rumblings about it. If it happens I would support it. I also see the down side pointed out by another answer in that cargo would sit offshore and many things would spoil. This could turn out to be a upside for farmers growing cattle and produce here in this country. People can find a way to survive a strike like this. They would use their local farm markets instead of supporting the big box stores that ship most edibles in from out of this country. I also feel that many will show their protest to the oil industry by car pooling more and limiting unnecessary trips. All one has to do is look at many companies showing a decrease in profits from last quarter. The only companies I can think of that are showing a profit are the big oil ones. We have a president that basically states in his Saturday address that things are a little tough out there but we will soon bounce back. I respectfully disagree with that. I feel that things will get much worse before they get better. Sorry about the rant. Just my humble opinion.

Try -Swift,Knight,England,JB Hunt, Schneider all these large trucking companies have their own schools. Also try Western Pacific Truck School. Some local trucking companies actually have plans where if you go to work for them and stay a certain amount of time they will pay for your schooling most classes only take about 6 weeks to get your Class"A".

Check the want ads in the Sunday newspapers of any large cities near you. He will find ads for trucking schools. He will also find ads from trucking companies who will get him trained and help him get his CDL.
