racism or just plain mean?

ive just moved into aussie, and im a chinese teen.
ive just spent two days here. and the feedback is horrible.
my aunt was on the tram in melbourne and this white girl stared at her as though she was dirt trash. like my aunt did not deserve to be there because she was asian! and i smiled at another white girl on my way out of a restaurant and she gave me a bitchy-get away look. is this just ppl being mean? or is it racism? i sometimes wonder if i was white, how would it be like? i also never see any group of friends that are mixed with white and asians and indians and others. why is this?? from where i am from, malaysia, i have friends of all races and we hang and bum around with everyone not caring about colour! is this really australia? or is it me being paranoid?

I think you were just having a bad day. At least that is what I PERSONALLY would like to believe. You sound like a nice person, give yourself a little more time, and the people who are like you, will eventually gravitate towards you! There is a saying that I have learned to believe in. Probably both.

I have a friend who is chinese from Malasia and she painted a different picture than you do tho. She grew up with all kinds of racial stuff abotu Malays. Coming to Canada opened her mind. after a bit of time.

Truth is, you'll find racism every where. You'll also find nice open minded people pretty well everywhere as well.

I think the best approach is to focus on the good rather than the bad. Rather than remembering the annoying people focus on the nice ones. They are there too.

If not, you're welcome to come to Canada. I can't garantee everybody here will be nice to you but I'll smile readily enough, unless you are axe murderer. Lots of mixed friends here.

That's horrible! Its not like white people are even natives of that country what right do they have to be racist against you when a lot of their ancestors were exiles to that country. Anywho, hope things get better for you.

You need to live in Australia a little longer than "2 days!" before you can start passing judgement and broadcast your negative feedback over the internet - insinuating that we ARE ALL RACIST AGAINST FOREIGNERS!!! I have been abused by an Aboriginee when I was walking with my husband from the restaurant to the car - she demanded I give her "a fkn cigarette - and called me a white *****" Does that mean I think all Aboriginees are racists? NO!!!! My cousin has been married to her husband for over 5 years - he is half aboriginal - they have two beautiful children! My father lives in UK with Scottish woman, and My brothers partner is Italian!!!

If you are sooo anti racism - then you would have spoken out to the PERSON IT IS THAT IS EFFECTING YOU DIRECTLY, as it encourages ASSIMILATING WITH OTHER CULTURES, and STOPS RACISM TAUNTS LIKE THE ONE YOU ARE POSTING HERE. If I came to your country of Birth and did this - it would be very rude and disprespectful of me to insult everybody else because of one person - that obviously has no manners?
