O.k. There is no such thing as the best, but here are a few for your consideration;- James Burton, Scotty Moore, Jose Feliciano, Steve Cropper, D.Gilmour, Albert Lee, Peter Green.....whatever, it's not about who's the fastest or who can play the most ridiculous scales, it's about having a memorable and identifiable style, eg. you know it's Brian May by hearing just one note. They are the clever guys.

Because more modern artists that seem to be the big buzz amongst teens play acoustic. And like you mentioned, he played a Justin Beiber song (whom I have seen play guitar...his skill is below the average child. It sounds like he just picked up a $20 guitar from Walmart and just strummed away.) and for some reason which is beyond me he attracts braindead teenage girls who can't think for themselves. And what the other guy said, an acoustic guitar makes a guy seem more calm and sensitive apart from raw and aggressive on an electric. When I do something I do it out of honesty, I would have played the electric because I don't need some cheap poppy gimmick to gain people's acceptance. These kids who were arroused by the acoustic performance probably have no idea what I'm saying because they have no original thoughts of their own. You can either be a clone or you can be unique.

Can't quite decide, but some of my faves are:

John Squire of the Stone Roses (For I am the Ressurection if nothing else). I'd probably be into dance or stuff like Take That if it wasn't for him!

Graham Coxon of Blur (He does the full range from acoustic through to widdly diddly solo on This is a Low on Parklife which is mighty impressive).

Matt Bellamy of Muse (He manages to make noises you just wouldn't expect to get out of a guitar and knocks off chunks of Hendrix as intros live as if to warm up; a genius

Bernard Butler when he was in Suede; produced beautiful evocative original music.

Nick McCabe of the Verve, especially their early stuff; huge psychedelic walls of sound; awesome.

Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age; Heavy, proper rock guitar, especially on Songs for the Deaf

Johhny Marr of the Smiths; Most of the above probably were inspired by him and his amazing ability which crossed the board from delicate acoustic stuff like Back to the Old House through to huge riffs like on How Soon is Now. He gets the prize for being the best I'd say.

You can keep coming up with fantastic talented and interesting guitarists all day long - but the fact of the matter is that as good as they are they only really follow rules that were laid down by other people.

Therefore i would say that the question is who is the most influential and interesting, my list would be:

Jimmy Page, Jimmy Hendrix, Toni Iommi, Muddy Walters, BB King, Peter Green, Dave Davies. It is these people that created modern guitar music. Therefore these people are the greatest guitarist

Uli Jon Roth the guy who influenced Satriani, Van halen, Malmsteen, slash, kirk hammet, Marty Freidman even Brian May is a big fan. He used to play for the Scorpions in the 70s with groundbreaking songs and solos like Sail's Of Charon, Catch Your Train, We'll Burn The Sky, Fly People Fly.... now he plays with 9 strings 40 frets ( fretless ) and soar " I was awed" Steve Vai

Try Chet Atkins. He's dead now but, check out his playing. Tommy Emmanuel admired him greatly. In fact they did an album together called "The Day the Fingerpickers Took Over the World". He was known as Mr.Guitar and could play any style
