I cant find it ont he web or anything but I did this one where I drilled two holes in a plastic cup and filled the cup with water and just dropped it. And I did it to a cup without holes in it and I had to explain why water shot out of one cup and not the other when it hit the ground.

My daughter did this last year (5th grade) and she won first prize:
The question is: What would the constellation of the Big Dipper look like to an alien in another part of our galaxy?
What we did was place small lightbulbs..like flashlight bulbs on top of wooden dowels that were punched through a thick styrofoam board with wires connected to them hooked up to a switch. We did a grid and all to make sure the bulbs were placed in approximately the right location and height as compared to how we see the big dipper from Earth when you look at it straight ahead at table height. Then as you move around the table you can see what the constellation would look like to someone (thing?) in another part of the galaxy.
It was a little more complex than that...my husband helped with all the wiring and everything and it was hooked up to three of those big lantern batteries so no power cords were needed. Took a little bit of work, but it turned out really cool.

My friend and I did hatched chicken eggs and showed the different stages. We had to start with 12 eggs because we had to open them every 4-5 days and show how much they had developed and still end up with live chicks. It isn't that hard to do and always got a lot of attention. But it does take between 20-23 days to complete.

Thank God we weren't required to do the Science Fair when I was in school. I am a total loser when it comes to anything scientific. Good luck to your son! =)
