This is pretty much a question without an answer, but WHERE IS THE RAGE?!!......What is it that I don't understand?.....I was in the States early last year and pump prices were almost $3/gallon (I'm an ex-pat living in Europe)....I read the other day that oil companies have posted RECORD PROFITS for 2006...I can almost bet, without having peeked, that the pump prices haven't dropped much, if any............now, at $3/gallon, I'm SURE they posted record profits.....but do I read of any public protest?; any headlines aboutf the outrage of all you SUV drivers?; any Congressional hearings?;....NO....not a peep!....instead, you'll wait around for the next election and put another idiot like Bush in the White House...although on second thought, it's going to be pretty hard to find another idiot like HIM.......OK...you economists...rednecks....zombies....tell me what it is I'm missing...what don't I understand?

"A society of zombies" indeed! Pilota300b4, you just made an accurate observation about the state of matters in the USA without actually understanding what it is you just deducted. While the US government is out touting its horn on democratizing the world, the US government for several years now have been rendering its people non-human. An overwhelming percentage of the people in the US are genetically engineered beings; some knowingly, some unknowingly.

No, you will see no protest! Did you notice how the people of the US were easily fooled into an unnecessary and unjustified 2003 war with Iraq, and even when told that they had been lied to, still supported the unnecessary sacrifice of both innocent Iraqis and their own people? Most of the people in the "land of the free and the home of the brave" are void of their own will - they simply perform under directives. Currently in Houston, Texas, land is being grabbed from US nationals by various branches of the US government under false pretenses, and there is almost no protest at all! If this were in any other nation, the nationals would be fighting back.

It is almost inconceivable that such practices could have occurred or is occurring! Docile societies is what the US government and its allies are dreaming of. Slavery never ended! By the way, I am also of the opinion that several government officials we see are simply doppelgangers - copies - of themselves, which could also be accomplished through Hi-Tech. NO, this is not Science Fiction! Please see:

Okay, what can we do about this? Some people want to take money from big oil to fund alternative fuels.
*
But if we required the oil companies to provide revenue for alternative energy, they would just make sure that time and money is wasted on more unworkable boondoggles like hydrogen.
*
Instead, take a look at what has been developed without any government or corporate subsidies:
*
http://phoenixmotorcars.com/models/fleet.html
*
The Phoenix electric car can travel up to 250 miles between charges, carries 5 people plus cargo at 95mph, charges batteries in only ten minutes, and has batteries that will last over 200,000 miles. The electricity cost to drive it is only about one cent per mile. Put solar panels on your garage, and drive it for FREE.
*
You won't hear anyone in the government talking about this car. Because this is exactly the sort of success story they did NOT want to happen. In fact, you'll have a hard time even finding the Phoenix mentioned in the media.
*
But the Phoenix is a real car. Orders have been received, and they begin building cars this month. Cost is expected to be around $45,000. That cost will fall to something more reasonable if enough cars can be built.

You can never take 100 percent of the profits. That just doesn't work. At that point, there is no motivation for anyone to even attempt to turn a profit at all. When there is no motivation at all to try to turn a profit, the system just doesn't work very well. You can, however, tax corporations and the rich at much higher rates than we currently do, and still have an economic system that functions quite well. Back when Eisenhower was president, we taxed the rich at rates in excess of 90% on their income and it still worked. I'm not sure what rate oil, gas, and other corporations were taxed at during that time.

What you are missing - especially in relation to SUVs - is all the broo-ha-ha about vehicular carbon emissions. There is a constituency of people who think that ways to curb this include increasing both prices and fuel taxes - policies that oil companies and governments love and urge upon voters. The fact that ALL transport emission together are about the same as those of industry and agriculture (14%) , and that changing land use (burning off forests or land clearance after cropping) accounts for about 18% of global carbon emissions does not stop the eco-warriors - and no government or company ever turns down a way of raising money that people can be led to accept.
This focus on the citizen car driver is a form of class warfare by urban dwellers who do not use cars to punish those they see as better provided for than themselves. It may be that the planet is warming - but do not believe all the scare stories that you hear - and keep campaigning for fair fuel prices.

In Europe and Britain they pay $9-$10 a gallon for petrol. We get a pretty good deal here considering. But don't worry. Hillary and her socialist buddies will soon have us all paying that and more when they finally take over the White House too. I expect a move to nationalize the oil industry right after they get total control of the sickness industry.

Any company making a profit tells me to buy stock.

They earn the money you didn't.

Please note that oil companies make about 8 cents a gallon.
Yet we are tax about 60 cents a gallon.

In IL it is illegal to put on the pumps the amount of taxes on gallon of gas.

Yet you are mad at big oil.

THE OIL COMPANIES WORK WITH THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO SCREW THE PUBLIC. THE GOVERNMENT DOES NOT HAVE ANY KIND OF CONTROL ON OIL PRICES, WHICH THEY SHOULD, TO PROTECT THE CONSUMER. ALL IT IS IS GREED ON PART OF THE OIL COMPANIES AND OUR POLITICIANS.
