The ring you picked sounds fantastic. Any woman should be satisfied to receive this ring! If not...I would be VERY wary of her from that point on. ALWAYS go for quality over quantity when it comes to a diamond. Don't worry about the white gold...if you have the $$$ down the road and even care about upgrading, do it then. I have white gold jewelry and love it. No it is not as hard as platinum and it can nick easier, but white gold keeps it's shine much longer than platinum and it looks very pretty. My diamond is just under a carat and I absolutely love it. It is the ring my husband asked me to marry him with and I wouldn't trade it for the world. He too also wanted to get me a "bigger" diamond and I could care less about the size. Besides I'd rather spend the $$$ on something like our house or a vacation. Remember, that giving an engagement ring is a total marketing scheme by the diamond companies...this was not always a "practice" so to speak. (Most older folks in their 70's to 90's only wear a plain gold band...it wasn't until many years later that this "fad" became a common practice) I think you totally made the correct choice.

Graded by reference to carats. A carat is a unit of mass used for gems, and equals 200 milligrams.
