I think about what it was like to live a 100 or 200 years ago and how tough the pioneers must have had it and that makes me think that I don't have it so bad and I need to keep pushing on. (I'm sort of a history buff, so this works for me.)

I say "what happens to you in life does not determine what kind of person you are, bad things / hard circumstances can be random and they happen to everyone or anyone. The way that you DEAL with what life throws at you determines what kind of person you are. Now get up and move on. Life is not a spectator sport, this is your one and only life."
