I know in PA they have those programs that build houses. They do everything for you. They advertise that they even pay your rent while your house is being built. I dont know how true that it, but is there anything like that in NY.

It seems a little overwhelming to have a house built and I would love if the was a program where I could just make 1 phone call. Maybe a community?? Im looking in Orange county. I live in NJ now and we dont want to commute more than 1 hour away.

I live in PA. Nothing is ever free in the construction business. If you want to build a home, you have to find a contractor, and possibly an architect, then a lot.
My sister and her husband had a home built. It took over two years. About 8 months ago, they moved in. They are still chasing after the general contractor to fix things.
If you have never built a home before, it is a full-time job. You have to stand guard at the construction site to make sure things are done right, on time, and with the correct materials.

It is way easier to find a house, already built, that you like. It takes about six weeks to get to the closing, then you can move right in. And you can see what you are getting.
