I like the standard American shorthair. Guinea pigs with long hair need to be brushed to keep their hair nice. It's just a matter of ease for me; I don't want the extra work of grooming a piggie.

For a beginer I would suggest an American. They are the easiest to care for grooming wise. Other short haired breeds that you might consider are the American Satin, Teddy, Teddy Satin, Abyssinian, Abyssinian Satin, or White Crested. Satins can be harder to find but they have a nice sheen to their coats. And don't forget about the cross breeds, they can be just as nice! If you are thinking about color there are many varieties to choose from. Best not to get white because they get stained very easily if not well taken care of. Also, if you can, rescue a guinea pig from a shelter. Guinea pigs from the pet stores often come out with diseases and ailments. Most commonly Upper Respritory Infection which can be a killer. Plus, rescuing gives a pig a second chance. And it gives you that nice warm fuzzy feeling inside!

I've had all breeds over the years but adore the Rex's (especially Agouti), they have a bristly coat and look a little like grizzly bears. They have also proved to be the most placid breed - so if you want something that looks cuddly and easy to handle, go for the Rex!

i think any kind of guinea pig as they are all good natured in general. i have one (pictured) who isn't of one particular breed and he's healthy and happy. my other pig is a rex. make sure you check the guinea pigs eyes (check they are clear) and hair when you buy and as long as they are healthy then it doesn't matter what breed. good luck!

relies upon on the breed of rabbit and canines. some canines get alongside tremendous with rabbits, extremely in the journey that they are raised jointly. i take advantage of to have a Chihuhua and a lab blend that were given alongside with 3 rabbits! some canines have organic instinct to chase/hunt/harm rabbits. verify with a breeder and veterinarian about what can be a stunning good breed of canines to have.

All of them are equally sweet, no matter what type of coat. However, if you don't have a lot of time to spend on grooming, I would suggest a short haired piggie.
Please check with local rescue organizations or animal shelters if considering having one of these animals. They are wonderful companions, but they do require maintenance and are not cheap to keep if you do it properly. Please check out www.guinealynx.com or www.cavycages.com for information before you buy. Good luck!

A golden agouti
i have had loads of guinea pigs when i was a kid, long-hair, short haired, you name it. But the one who became the most tame, and was the easieest to look after and the most gentle was a golden haired AGOUTI guinea-pig. google it, they're cute too.

Do you wish to eat it or keep it as a pet?
If a pet, buy a hairy one!
