Mine would have to be the Wayside School stories by Louis Sacher and Calvin and Hobbes and also anything by Poe. I became obsessed with him in 3rd grade.

What were your favorites?

I loved anything by Jane Thayer, aka Catherine Woolley, as well as Beverly Cleary, Elenor Estes, Richard Scary, Ellen Conford, and Gordon Korman. I still love to read my old childhood favorites once in awhile. I reread Charlotte's Web, Hail, Hail Camp Timberwood, Ginnie and Her Juniors, and I Want to Go Home!about once a year.
There's also a terrific book called Me and The Weirdos by Jane Sutton which was my favorite at age 10. Most people haven't heard of it, as it's been out of print for many years. It's about the funniest thing I have ever read. If you can get a hold of a copy, you're very lucky. They are expensive on ebay. I wish it would be turned into a movie, it's that good.

I've been a children's librarian for almost 30 years and a child for much longer. The books I remember from my earlier childhood days are the Andrew Lang Fairy Books. I read all the colours. I also remember loving the E. Nesbit books - Five Children and It and the Phoenix and the Carpet in particular.

Recent books for young readers that have me thinking are The Giver and Gossamer by Lois Lowry; Tale of Desperaux by Kate DiCamillo; Crazy Man by Porter and Johnny Kellock Died Today by Hadley Dyer.

Check out your local library to find all your remembered books from the past and some great new titles to share with the young people in your lives.

I loved (and still love) "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day." As I got a little older, I loved the Ramona books by Beverly Cleary. I love the Madeline L'Engle books "A Wrinkle in Time," "A Wind in the Door," and "A Swiftly Tilting Planet." I also devoured everything Judy Blume wrote.

When I was very young I loved the Serendipity stories which were like mini-fantasy stories with lots of fantastic creatures. The pictures were brightly colored and very beautiful.

When I was in the lower grades of elementary school I liked the Ramona books by Beverly Cleary and the Fudge books by Judy Blume. In the later years of elementary school my favorite stories were primarily fantasies. I liked the Narnia books, the Prydain series by Lloyd Alexander and The Dark is Rising books by Susan Cooper.

I remembered a book called "Turtle's Flying Lesson". I don't remember who wrote it, but I loved the hardcover book. It was about a couple of peasants trying to teach a turtle to fly so he could migrate to the south with them.
