There are aruguments for both consoles. Yes the PS3 comes with the blu-ray which is great as blu-ray players cost twice as much at the moment but the idea of an add on drive like the 360's HD-DVD is better, as who can honestly say at this point which way the HD format war is going to go i would hate to pay for a PS3 only to realise sony had backed the wrong format. And i know people will say blu-ray is superior and they may just be right but so was betamax over VHS and look what happened there. Also whats stoping Microsoft releasing an add on blu-ray should HD-DVD fail or even running both formats as different film studios are signed up for different formats
In regards to online lets face it xbox live wins hands down, they have all the knowledge they gained form the original and are well ahead of the game on that one.
If you do a side by side comparison of the graphics of the both you will be hard pushed to tell the differece and even though the PS3 may be more powerful (which lets face it there is no evidence of yet) a lot of reviews have said the PS3 may even look SLIGHTLY worse. And i have never known a console to have such a bad release line up of games as the PS3 (even though the 360's wasn't fantastic)
I expect the PS3 to seriosly be offering good competion in a couple years while they get their act together, even take the dominate role in the next 2-3 years, but at the moment the Xbox 360 is the best option and will probably always keep up due to the way each part can be upgraded.

Okay, I just answered this question a bit ago. So I'll just cut and paste. Hope this helps you with your decision. Okay, I have both. Although it may not be fair considering I have only one game and a few movies for the ps3 and over a dozen for the 360. I have played both, I have had the 360 for over a year now and the ps3 for roughly 2 weeks. I still prefer the 360. I dont see a huge difference in graphics yet. Yes, I am running on an hdtv, through an hdmi cable. I am not able to get 1080p, but my television offers both 720p and 1080i. I like being able to play blu ray movies on the ps3. There are some good high def visuals to see while playing a movie in high def. This is the only thing I have enjoyed so far with the ps3. The 360, in my view is way better. I like the dashboard feature, I enjoy downloading all the retro arcade games I grew up on. As rudementary as they are, they are still good entertainment. I also enjoy the fact that now, if I wanted to I could download movies from the 360 rather than going down to the video store. They dont have a lot to choose from yet, but I see alot more coming in the future. You can also download television episodes from some of the most popular cable channels. ABC, NBC,Comedy Channel, MTV, MTV2, CBS. This allows you to download such shows as CSI, South Park, and many many more. The possibilities with the 360 blow me away. I could go without the ps3 at this point. The 360's capabilities are endless. Granted, you lose some of the graphics the ps3 gives you. If given the choice personally to choose betweeen the two...I would take the 360.

The Playstation 3 (on paper) is the most advanced system, but i have yet to see a game that blows the 360 away. The graphics are the same right now for both systems but as more games come out, the better the graphics will be (look at Gears Of War, which is by far the best looking games out now for any system and its on the 360). The Ps3 does have the bluray but Sony has a bad track record for introducing media formats that fail miserably (enter minidisc, betamax, umd).
The 360 has a large library of games, and the graphics are great. The 360's online community is second to none. They have set up a great online service and at 60 dollars a year, it is very reasonably priced (although ps3 is free, it in no where near the size of the 360).
The 360's price is much easier to swallow. The 360 premium version is 200.00 less than that of the ps3 premium version.
A big problem that i have with the ps3 is that they introduced the controler with no rumble feature which is a big drawback for me. The 360 controler has rumble and makes the games that much more enjoyable.
Your coice will ultimately come down to what you want and dont want, which is diffrent for everyone. I personally feel that the 360 is the better of the two as of right now, but the ps3 will likely catch up later in the yeay when they get more games and we strt to see the full potential of the Ps3.

I can't say what is better over-all but for me I like the PS3 more. I play a few console games but I also like movies. I was also going to get to the HD movie market soon and the PS3 offered me a cheap Blu-Ray player built in. I don't feel like buying parts and building an HD player. I want it out of the box. I owned a PS1 and PS2 so the PS3 being able to play the games for the others was also a bonus for me.

PS3 is a better machine & better graphically - though it doesn't have much game support at the moment, which will improve - also is the cheapest way of getting a blu-ray drive at the moment, but my money is with the 360, simply because of the online community - It's more fun playing against real people than AI - Sony will never match the online community, especially when Microsoft merge the 360 and PC online communities

360 is better by far: price, games, online service, controller, style of the console, doesn't run as hot as the ps3, doesn't look like an overpriced George Foreman Grill, HD DVD (even with this add-on it's still cheaper than a ps3).
