what are the different "ends" of education?

Education could be for a vocational end or more philosphical (think about technical vs. liberal arts schools). Some people feel that the reason to get education is merely to be able to earn a living, while others feel that education in itself is good for a person. The results are either people who are very good at a particular job or well-rounded, inquisitive, knowledgable people.
