As an American raised abroad, I have always wondered why Americans always talk about being the only country in the world that has "freedom" and they always say other people come here to enjoy this freedom. I really don't understand where this myth comes from. I don't think the US is actually a free country. I think there is a lot of repression and lots of laws that shouldn't be there. From what I see when I come to visit here, there is a lot of brainwashing going on at schools and kids grow up thinking that the US is free, democratic and that all the wars are for the benefit of the world, etc....All this seems ridiculous to me. I have been to a few third world countries and they all were much more free and democratic than the US, not to mention they were better places to live. Maybe I should feel glad that I was raised in one of these so called "uncivilized third world countries"..Anyway, it's kinda hard to understand my own people sometimes when I come to the US on vacation.

I DO live where the real freedom is. I'm just visiting my American relatives in the US now.

I do live in a SOCIALIST country and it is more free than the US, in my opinion.

I was raised in Venezuela's countryside. I still live there and seldom visit the US. And Yes, I do love Chavez though I'm unable to vote since I'm an American.

The world is not trying to come to the US. It is the US that is trying to dominate the world. The world DOES NOT believe in the FALSE democracy of the US and their lack of freedom. The world wants peace and life. Americans seem to want WAR and death for others. Americans hate the world while we Venezuelans are trying to build a better world. The US should follow our example. We are true Christians nd have a real Christian brave president leading the way for Venezuela and Latin America.

Americans spread their false freedom and try to impose it upon others.

See, the Americans don't understand that the whole world is free. Every nation/citizen across the globe are happily living and going about their life. And life is about trying to make ends meet and humans do that in ANY situation.

Americans DON'T understand that basic fact! They think a person can be truly free ONLY under their system of freedom. In fact, this American freedom policy has destroyed countless sovereign nations and crushed rich cultures. This is so false and Americans must realize that a person can be happy under any system.

See, I feel sorry for the people living in North Korea. That is true oppression BUT I am very sure that the North Korean people have adapted to the harsh conditions very well. In fact, they are so well adapted that if America was to invade NK, the people there will attack Americans on the fact that the Americans have destroyed their way of life! This simple truth cannot be understood by Americans! What shame.

Another example is Americans and their perception of women in the Arab world. They think the women are forced to wear black coverings and that they are not allowed to vote. In fact, Arab women cover themselves cheerfully BECAUSE it is their culture; their religion has a rule. Why can't American's understand that? They think the men in the Arab world are the oppressors. By invading Afganistan and Iraq and making the women there vote, Americans have launched a massive culture war against a stable Islamic people. What a mistake.

American schools do a lot of brainwashing and when they teach history, it is more distorted than the real history itself. Americans see themselves as peacebringers to a hopeless world. Wrong! America is fighting the world today because it wants to secure the #1 position to itself. That's why America does not want Iran and Venezuela to come up and be influential nations.

I do not know where this will end but surely if Americans realize this basic fact, the world can have lasting peace.

Because very few Americans understand that the Federal Reserve is a privately held corporation that controls US monetary policy and dominates the US economy by controlling, by owning the majority stock, mainstream media (much of) and many other corporations that some people still believe are owned by Republicans.

Joseph Stalin was absolutely correct when he said "tell a lie long enough and soon enough most people will believe it." There are very few Americans who seem to have much in the way of cognitive thinking ability to come to an independent analysis of the facts. Most are too shallow to comprehend much and few bother to read in depth. They believe what they hear from the mainstream media for the most part and from politicians, although they will say otherwise, the proof is in the consistency of their actions or inactions.

I'm a natural born American, I served in our nation's armed forces (unlike most Americans) and also served in special forces, I read laws that are passed and study what's going on behind the scenes and hardly ever watch the propaganda that some people still naively call the news. I am the exception to the rule however.

America does have a specific culture that is dominant like it or not. Most people here that feel the need to identify with their race rather than culture are simply compensating for the "Ugly Americans" sentiment by u always here. My ancestors were Hungarian, but I know nothing of that culture or care since I am an American born and raised, like any other person born here and raised in this society.

Why do zoombies mumble the same chant. They can't think - they are brain dead too.

I totally agree with you. It is a myth, I too have travelled all over the world and I have experienced more freedom, safety and comfort in many more countries than I have in the most expansive American towns.

Those who proclaim America's freedom the most have not been even outside the city they were born in. Their knowledge of another state is what they've seen on TV and what they grasped in highschool (where grasping is as close as they get to a formal education).

Your contentions are dishonest based on several factors, not the least of which are listed below.

The majority of Americans do not claim they are the only free country in the world.

All Americans do not justify all wars, if you believe this you are woefully lax in paying attention to news of the debates that are raging in this country regarding that very subject.

You do not present any examples of what counties you consider to be more free and democratic. Nor do you present examples of why you feel this is correct.

You attempt to present yourself as more informed or enlightened on freedom and yet make only open ended claims which cannot be disputed properly for discussion purposes because they lack substance. If you want to be taken seriously provide details and evidence to support your claims in a specific manner, or be relegated to the position of disenchanted bomb thrower interested only in indictment without basis of fact or merit. You say all this seems ridiculous to you, I say it works both ways. However, since you apparently do not like the United States very much, I would say it is good that you choose to live in some other unnamed country and this is of course your right.

I am an Aussie and we are free here.
I can travel from one end of our beautiful country to the other, We have laws they don't seem to be too bad. We are forced to vote if we don't we are fined is that such a bad thing?. We are able to speak our minds. We don't have to worry about someone POPPING A CAP IN US, when we are out. yes there are a few bad eggs amongst us.

I think your right brainwashing them early helps the government.

Either you don't know much about the United States (which I seriuosly doubt) or you are blinded by hatred my friend. Answer me this, is the world trying to come to the U.S. or are people in the U.S. trying to bust out? And, just for the record, people in our western hemisphere generally do not like the term "American." Canadians are American to--from North America, Brazilians are from South America. It's just from the U.S.

The Government has never earned $1.00 one dollar that it has taken from us in taxes!!! What they do take they can't manage!!!! They have kept eight(8)+ million American workers in poverty since 1997=$5.15hr 2010=$7.25hr by not raising the minimum wage!!!The increase amounts to 17.6cents an hour for working 12yrs at $5.15 an hour!! Would you work for 12yrs to get a 17.6cent an hour increase in your paycheck? THATS INSANE! Thanks for nothing! May God have mercy on our Senators and Representatives!!!

America is only as free as our government will let us be More and more of our freedoms our being striped away by the currant administration in their supposed war on terrorism (they are the real terrorists in my opinion) I agree with you in a sense There are a lot of countries with more freedoms than the U.S. The Netherlands comes to mind as being one of them

Wrong. It is not the only country in the world with personal liberty and freedom (within the bounds of law). Rather, it is the countries established as Republics and Democracies. You haven't traveled overseas much have you? I can tell you that you will NOT find the kind of freedoms we take for granted in any Dictatorship, Communist or Socialist society (that comprises most of the world).
