Just take your time and start to spend some time with them as you can and be a friend to them at first and get to know them all over again. Let them set the pace and when they are ready for more they will let you know. What is the situation here and why do you have to reconcile with your children if i may ask?

What happened? And why do you reconcile with kids--you are the PARENT---you obviously had to make some decisions that weren't popular and probably made your kids angry--too bad. You can explain a rough judgement or even express a desire to watch out for their well being--but apologize for whatever you had to do?? NEVER. What they do not like they can pout about until they are 18 and then move out. Who's in charge there anyway??

If they are whining about your authority in the home, they have to deal with it. Stay firm. If you made a mistake or offended them, you need to apologize. Doing that has great power and humility. You may be surprised how they feel afterwards. Apologies have wonderful restorative power and they set a good example for how kids should handle their own offenses with others as well.

You give nowhere near enough information in your question but I'll share this with you.
I have four girls and nine grandchildren. Abandoned I was and unhappy that I only saw my girls from one Christmas to the next.
But I am cunning!
I delivered my Christmas presents for my grand kids on Christmas Eve and the went out and partied with my friends on Christmas.
They must have noticed that someone was missing. They've all been 'round to see me since and wished me Happy New Year. And my grand kids ALL love me to death.

I don't know the situation, but maybe you could call them up and say your sorry and you want to make everything right between yourself and them. They may accept or they may not, so just bear with them and don't give up.

your not specific but if able, spend more time with them. let them get to know you. be there if they need you. don't loan money they never pay back, they think its coming to them. but if you see they have character, thats a different story...
