Does anyone know the name of the film on FILM4 Last night about WW2, in Italian???? Please help it was great!!

I watched a film last night on FILM 4 which I just sort of stumbled upon, it finished at 9pm, and I have managed to forget the name. I am sure that it was a name with "father" in it, but could be wrong.

It was about the Italian Jews in WW2, and basically about a father and son who were in a camp together, and about how the father made the atrocities into a game scoring points so that the son wasnt scared. It did and didnt have a happy ending, but it was awe inspiring and would like to know what the name is. It did say that it was an Oscar Nominated Film. Any help would appreciated, I am also sure that Robert De Niro was in it in a small part.

If you've seen the film in Italian then the original title is
'LA VITA E' BELLA' (Life is beautiful) edited in 1997
In 1998 it won the Academy Awards (Oscar) for Best Music, Original Dramatic Score and Best Foreign Language Film. Roberto Benigni won Best Actor for his role. The film was additionally nominated for Academy Awards for Directing, Film Editing, Best Picture, and Best Original Screenplay.
Robert De Niro is not in the cast of this movie.

It wasn't Robert De Niro, his name is Roberto Benigni and he won 3 Oscars for this movie which he directed.
